Question: Describe the key cellular structures and their functions for your chosen bacterium. The key structures described in the textbook are listed here (if your bacterium does not have the structure, you do not need to include it in your description or model):

  • Glycocalyces
  • Flagella
  • Fimbriae and pili
  • Bacterial cell wall (it should be apparent whether your bacteria is Gram-positive or Gram-negative)
  • Bacterial cytoplasmic membrane
  • Cytosol
  • Inclusions
  • Endospores
  • Ribosomes
  • Cytoskeleton
  1. In your description of the cellular structure and function, compare it to a human cell. For example, you would explain that bacteria have a nucleoid, but no nucleus like a human cell.
  2. Post your model and presentation here.
  3. Aim to teach us about your chosen bacteria within 5-7 minutes, but there is no strict time limit.

Level-up Opportunities

  1. Build a model of a virus and describe the key structures. Post this along with your bacterial model description.
  2. The quality, the level of research, the detail, creativity, and effort you put into your bacteria model and description.
  3. Since learning progress is important to our class, you can also level up by considering the feedback provided and making high-impact improvements that you resubmi
