A new study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry examined the effect of taking micronutrients for children with ADHD and emotional dysregulation Researchers. enrolled 133 children ages 6 to 12 years who had been diagnosed with ADHD and had at least one impairing irritability symptom in the study The children were randomly enrolled into one of two groups, a group that received a micronutrient supplement (taken as 9 to 12 capsules per day with food) and a placebo group. Clinicians, who did not know who was receiving the supplement and who was receiving the placebo, rated the children on a range of behavioral scales both through direct observation and through interviews with parents. The group receiving the supplement showed a significant improvement in behavior on the direct observation reports as compared to the placebo group.
