Assessment Description
As a working professional, you need to be aware of therapeutic modalities that are most used in conjunction with conventional evidence-based practices, whether because you may want to recommend them or because they are already being used by your clients. Such interventions are collectively known by several different names, including complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), complementary and alternative therapies, and complementary and integrative health approaches. Some examples of complementary practices include grounding, relaxation and breath control, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, meditation, mindfulness, emotional freedom techniques, spirituality/religion, faith-based approaches to healing, biofeedback, music therapy, acupuncture, Tai Chi, Reiki, massage, chiropractic, energy healing, wilderness therapy, herbal remedies, and vitamin supplements.
A good starting point for your resources is the course textbook, in particular Chapters 6, 9, 10, and 12. There are additional electronic resources in the course materials that you can use to get your research started.
Write a 1,000 word paper, in which you address the following:
Describe three to five complementary and alternative approaches and discuss appropriate times, ages, and strategies to use based on client need.
Describe how you decide when to use which approach.
Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed journal articles from the last 10 years.
Analyze the effectiveness and duration of treatment.
