Public Health Policy, Politics and Progress Assignment - Advocacy Letter Essay
Description - Advocacy Letter - Informing or creating policy is an important aspect of public health. One of the 10 Essential Services covered this week relates to the planning, development, and creation of policies. This includes efforts to advocate for political, social, or economic policies and programs that will improve health in diverse populations.
In Module 2, you addressed insurance coverage for three different clinical preventive services. You now move from an academic focus to an advocacy focus.
In this two-part assignment, you create a one-page letter that you will send by email to a legislator or other policy maker to advocate for coverage of these three clinical preventive services in a specified diverse population. Please note that this must be a real letter to a real policymaker. To prepare, be sure to choose a person that is clearly involved in policy making who you believe can have a genuine impact on the coverage of these services.
In addition to sending your letter, respond to the questions below to provide a description of your process of creating and sending of the letter. Also, be sure to demonstrate what you have learned about how non-governmental officials and interest groups can inform the lawmaking process and demonstrate that you have applied it to your advocacy
Submit your assignment, including each of the following:
1. Provide the name and address of the person to whom the letter was sent and explain why you chose this person and this population for your advocacy. In your explanation, describe what impact you believe this person may have on what you are advocating for.
2. Describe how the letter you sent could work in conjunction with other advocacy efforts to promote coverage of these clinical preventive services. In your response, explain what other advocacy options might work, and support your answer.
3. Attach the letter that you sent. Your letter must be business formal, including the date, the correct and complete address of the legislator, and your signature at the bottom.
