Step 1: Defining a Research Challenge : Your submission text must include:
- The problem statement related to MSA concepts
- Main research question
- The purpose of your research proposal
- Theoretical Framework
Suggested submission length is 1-3 pages. You must support your paper with at least five (5) scholarly references. The text must include the following sections:
Problem Statement. Every research begins with a problem related to a topic of interest. In a few paragraphs describe the nature of the problem that you address in your research study. This problem must be related to MSA topics. As you think about your topic of interest, consider the following question: What is the management/leadership dilemma or opportunity that could be investigated? Although the full treatment of the research problem, background, context, and significance is lengthy, the actual statement of the problem is short, precise and needs a conclusion (i.e. Therefore, the problem to be addressed in this research project is....). This section will contain citations from the literature to support your claims.
Main research question(s). Write a clear, concise, measurable question that your proposed research study aims to answer. Alternative approach to research questions is posing formal hypothesis (quantitative). Wording is critical. Quantitative research questions include variables and will have more than one research question. Main research questions drive the rest of the proposal. For instance, the literature review is a specific exploration of available knowledge that undergirds main research question(s). Methodology chapter details how the data needed to answer each question will be collected.
Purpose of Study. Craft a 1-2 sentence declarative statement to clearly and precisely explain what you are attempting to explore, understand, and/or determine during your research. A well written purpose statement clearly indicates if this study will be a quantitative, qualitative OR mixed research. Avoid long introductions, technicalities, excessive detail, and generalizations.
Theoretical Framework. A Theoretical Framework is a theory that serves as a basis for conducting research. This section is optional. Your research may or not have a Theoretical Framework. A Theoretical Framework is a theory that serves as a basis for conducting research.
Step 2: Annotated Bibliography : Utilize and synthesize current, relevant, and credible sources sufficient in number to create the context for the problem and to demonstrate understanding of the problem/issue. A bibliography should contain minimum of 5 (Five) scholarly resources.
Step 3: Literature Review : Literature review helps you identify research possibilities as well as to gain new insights on the chosen topic. For Paper 3, you will utilize and synthesize current, relevant, and credible sources sufficient in number to create the context for the problem and to demonstrate understanding of the problem/issue. A literature review describes what is currently known about the topic you are researching. The purpose of a literature review is NOT to tell the reader everything that is known about a particular topic. It should be sharp and focused. So, utilize and synthesize current, relevant, and credible sources sufficient in number to create the context for the problem and to demonstrate understanding of the problem/issue. Cite minimum of five (5) scholarly resources in APA 7th Edition format. As you review the current literature on your topic of interest, think about the following questions: What is the purpose of the study under review and how does it differ from other studies? What are the findings and how do they differ from other studies? What are the limitations of the study? How does this particular study relate to my proposed study?
Step 4: Methodology : Begin your paper by describing the research paradigm being used - Quantitative, qualitative, correlational research, survey research, grounded theory, ethnography etc. Explain the characteristics and advantages/benefits of the research design being used and why it is appropriate for this study. Include citations from your text and other literature to support your arguments. Explain the data being collected and analyzed in details. Also, include all methodological details appropriate to the typology being used; research participants (describe the population and sampling procedures to give your study sample); instrumentation - describe the particular measures or instruments (surveys, interviews, observations etc.); research procedure - provide the details of the plan to conduct and complete the research including how the participants will be selected, how the data will be collected, a time line, possible constraints, any assumptions made and any limitations to the study. Describe how the information and data gathered from the study will be analyzed. This section should also describe how the security (who has access), confidentiality and perhaps anonymity of the data will be maintained.
