Digital Literacy Narrative

Task:

For this assignment, you will describe how a particular technology, event, or person impacts the way that you communicate in a digital age. In other words, how it affected some aspect of your reading or writing. Along with this description, you will explain how using new media and technology matters to you in your formal and/or informal communications.

Optional Ways to Organize Your Narrative:

You may wish to organize your narrative in ONE of the following ways:
- Describe your first memory of using a type of new media (e.g. tablet, camera, app or software) and consider how and whether your experience of using this new media has changed over time. What are the consequences of these changes?
- Focus on a Social Network Site you use and compare how you read/write/communicate online with how you read/write/communicate in person and/or on a class paper. What are the differences? Similarities? Why might these differences and similarities matter to you and your future goals with using new media and technology in your life?
- Make an argument about whether you prefer to read/write/communicate online or whether you prefer to read/write/communicate on in person and/or on paper, and use an example (e.g. my personal blog) to illustrate your argument. Why do you prefer reading, writing, or communicating in one mode over another? How does your preference impact your future goals with using new media and technology in your life?

Purpose and Audience:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to examine your own history as a writer, reader, and language-user and to define why it matters to you to become a critical and aware writer in a digital age.

Your instructor and classmates are your audience for this paper.

You will write this piece as a linear, text-based personal narrative. The tone of this narrative is informal. You may use the word, "I" and speak directly to the audience (your instructor and classmates).
