Describe cognitive dissonance and describe a time you experienced it. Which mechanism did you use to reduce the cognitive dissonance? Cognitive dissonance is a theory that states when a person receives new information about something they previously believed causing a process of confusion in them. For example, someone who was a heavy meat eater learning about the unethical ways animals or treated and then the person in return feeling guilty for eating meat like they used to. There are ways to resolve cognitive dissonance such as being mindful or changing the behavior in the future, I have currently been feeling cognitive dissonance with healthy habits. I know the foods I am eating are affecting me greatly and not exercising anymore has taken its toll on a lot of my body already. I feel guilty that I know what I'm doing isn't great and that I know what to do to make me feel better but I still have been continuing my unhealthy habits. Ways I have been trying to resolve my cognitive dissonance are being more mindful of my choices and choosing to change what I eat later.
