Case Study
A practicum student is working in the agency's electronic health record system to review notes for their assigned client. While navigating the system, the student notices a name that appears familiar and believes the person may be a former neighbor from their hometown. The individual is not assigned to the student's caseload.
Out of curiosity, the student opens the individual's record briefly to confirm whether it is the same person. After realizing it likely is, the student closes the record and returns to their assigned work. The student does not download, print, or share the information with anyone.
The student begins to wonder whether opening the record may have been inappropriate but decides not to mention it to their supervisor.
