Problem
During their second month of practicum, a student realizes that a distant relative may be receiving services at the same agency where they are placed. The student has not been assigned to the individual's case and has not had direct contact with them.
Concerned that they might unexpectedly encounter the person at the agency, the student logs into the electronic record system to check which program the individual is receiving services from and whether the person attends appointments on the days the student is present.
The student believes this step will help them avoid uncomfortable interactions and protect both themselves and the client from a potential dual relationship. The student does not inform their supervisor about accessing the record.
