Context
Developing a research proposal involves a series of critical preparatory steps. To begin, there must be a clear understanding of what your research problem is. The research problem is the foundation of your project. You must demonstrate that the problem exists, that it is relevant and significant, and that it needs to be addressed. This requires you to situate your inquiry in the literature.
Completing this assessment will assist in the development of your thesis, as demonstrated in the following diagram.
Assessment Task
Deliver a 3-minute in-class oral presentation supported by script and 1 PPT slide that describes your proposed research project, situates the problem in the contemporary literature, and demonstrates the significance of your inquiry. This assessment combines your topic submission and the formal background-and-significance discussion into a single deliverable and summarises the Research Project Proposal from Assessment 1.
Instructions
Your 3-minute in-class presentation should include:
Research topic
Working title of the research project
Field of research code
One-sentence statement of the proposed research focus
Confirmation that the topic is low risk and ethical considerations
Background and significance
Major literature sources
The research gap
The magnitude of the problem including stakegholders
Your slide should discuss and include the following:
Topic title and FoR alignment
Problem statement and research gap
Initial concept or theoretical framework (emergent propositions)
Consequences of not resolving the problem including impact on stakeholders and proposed direction
Ethical Considerations
Your script should include the above together with references and intext citations using APA7
Oral Presentation
Your facilitator will schedule the in-class oral presentations. As the facilitator will strictly enforce timing, it is recommended that you rehearse the timing carefully; at three minutes you will be stopped, and you will only be allowed to show one slide.
