Purpose: The purpose of this assessment is to:
provide the student with an early opportunity to refine and propose the subject of their MBR dissertation;
provide evidence of the student's ability to undertake original research as required by the MBR;
provide an opportunity for the student to identify their proposed research topic and to propose an appropriate study to satisfy the MBR requirements.
Description
Students should prepare a detailed research proposal that would be suitable to conduct as their intended dissertation topic. The proposal will include, inter alia: a comprehensive Literature Review (as studied in TRES 601); Problem Definition / Research Questions; Methodology Of Operations Research; Collection Of Data; Draft Questionnaire, Proposed Analysis and Timing. The proposal will be developed in consultation with the lecturer and will be progressively developed and refined over the Term.
Word length: 6,000 words including tables, figures and references.
Criteria will be used to assess the proposal:
Clear project summary, including research background and significance of research
Literature review, depth and breadth
Well-justified research questions
Feasible methodology
Scope of proposed analysis and links to theory
Depth of Numerical Analysis And Statistical Methods and arguments
Presentation of a convincing argument
Clarity of expression and error-free language
Appropriate referencing
