Strategic Career Design
Assessment: Career Plan
Career Plan (inclusive of coversheet, contents page, report, reference list and appendices).
Word count: 1800 words. A 10% leniency applies if over or under than the word count.
The word count excludes: the coversheet, contents page, reference list and the appendices. Use size 12 font and line and a half spacing.

Instructions: You need to develop a Career Plan, which will help you plan for graduation-whether this is in the next 3 years (if you are studying full time), 5 years (if you are studying a double degree), or even longer if you're doing your degree part time. The primary objective is to prompt you to consider how best to prepare yourself for the future of work
Format: This assessment is an information report that should follow the structure and sub-headings outlined below. It does not require recommendations or an abstract.

Introduction - Briefly introduce the topic (importance of career management).
Provide relevant contextual background about the topic - the future / precarious nature of work (environmental) and your contextual background (personal).
Outline the sections of the report (corresponding to your plan elements).
Section 1: Who am I? (personal and professional life)
Respond to this section using the in-class activities you have completed to date as evidence. Relevant in-class activities include: the Your Compass activity, your Inheritance Factors exercise, and other self-reflective activities you have engaged with in class).
With reference to the Your Compass activity from Week 2, provide a summary of:
Your values
Your career motivations
Your purpose/outlook on life
With reference to the Your Compass activity, reflect on what meaningful /purposeful work means to you.
With reference to the Inheritance Factors exercise, identify the key external influences on your career decision making.
Section 2: My employability
Respond to the following questions using the following in-class activities and unit resources to support your discussion: your EmployABILITY survey results, your Team Role exercise results, and any other employability skill

Identify THREE (3) employability skills you currently possess. For each, explain why you think you posses that skill.
Identify ONE (1) skill that you do not currently possess that you believe will be important for you to develop further over the next few years. Focusing on the ONE skill that you identified for further development in the previous question: Explain why it will be important to develop this skill and how it will be valuable in the context of the future of work.
Section 3:
Analysis and reflection of My Career Plans
In this section, you will reflect on the three Odyssey Plans you have completed in class and have included in your appendices.
For your Main Plan and your What If Plan: Provide a short summary of your Main career path and your
‘What If?' career path and why you chose the Main Plan as the primary Plan.
For your Main Plan ONLY:
Explain how you plan to achieve the career goals you have identified.
provide a credible and realistic time frame for reaching your goals.
Identify FOUR (4) key steps that you would need to take to achieve them your goals.
Now compare your Dream Career ("if money and time were no object") to your Main Plan.
Identify one positive element of your Dream Career that is not present, or minimally present, in your Main Career.
Explain either how you can incorporate this positive element into your main career, or why this would not be possible.
Section 4:
Analysis and the Future of Work
In this section, you need to evaluate your Main Plan (outlined and discussed in Section 3), in relation to scholarly articles and reports concerning the future of work. Several articles on the topic have been provided to assist you (they can be found in the Career Plan folder in the Assessments section in Blackboard). You must use at least TWO of these papers in your response and must reference your sources clearly using Chicago 17th Author-Date referencing (see section 6 for details).
Briefly summarise what the literature (reports and academic journal articles provided) says about the future of work in the field of work you plan to enter (identified in your Main Plan and discussion in section 4). Identify TWO key global political, economic social and/or technological trends that will have the most substantial impact on your work future.
With reference to Section 2 (My employability skills self-evaluation):
Reflect, with reference to supporting scholarly literature, on ONE of the three employability skills you possess (based on your answer in Section 2). How will these skills be affected by the predicted global
trends? What risks or opportunities do these changes pose to your employability?
b. Reflect, with reference to supporting literature, on the one skill you identified as needing to develop further. Is this skill going to be crucial in the future? How, if at all, will the skill be affected by the predicted global trends? What risks or opportunities do these changes pose to your employability?
3. With reference to the challenges and/or opportunities you have identified in the two questions above: Provide
a short strategy explaining how you are going to ‘future proof' your stated career goals.
Section 5:
Final reflection Now that you have analysed your career plans and goals in relation to the future of work, reflect on what you initially laid out in your Main Plan:
Was the plan you created in class realistic, cohesive, and adaptable?
What did you learn about yourself and your employability while completing this assessment? 150 words
6. References List of references - a list of sources of information referred to in the Career Plan.
The sources you list in the reference list must be the same as the ones you have used in the report. Don't forget to use in-text citations when you draw on ideas and information from other authors.
