Question: After reviewing the whole group lesson the students will split into small groups. Gather the students in groups of three to start the lesson. Using the ten frames on the activity students will color dots in the place of chips. I will demonstrate to them how to use a ten frame to represent a teen number. The students will place dots in the ten frame to display the number on the first problem. As I demonstrate, I will go over each step of the process in detail. I will instruct them to fill in the ten frames from top to bottom and left to right. Then I will ask the students to help me fill in the ten frames using a different teen number. Students will then do the next problem on their own. I will give them a number and tell them to use the ten frames and dots to represent the number. I will assist students and keep an eye on their individual work. I will urge them to fill in the ten frames by going from top to bottom and left to right. Students will then share their representations with the group. They will talk about the various ways that they depicted their teen numbers.
