Question: In this module, you will read a systematic review that outlines the issue of implicit bias among health care professionals. In 2017, The Institute for Healthcare Improvement released a guide for health care organizations regarding health equity. This white paper was part of this week's reading. Please review the guide carefully. Views on implicit bias, social inequalities, and racism are widely varied. The authors of the works you are reading obviously hold convictions common in academia on these topics. After having read and reviewed both documents, you need want you to explore these topics, the literature, and theological guidelines for understanding what is being offered by theses authors. A traditional way to interact with this material would be to discuss the means by which implicit bias, social inequities, and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at the organizational, community, and societal levels. Perhaps another way to engage this material would be to examine how can efforts to root out perceived inequities actually lead to new inequities and instances of discrimination that threaten individual health. Feel free to speak from personal and professional experience, but make sure that your argumentation is academic, synthetic, and theological. As you conclude, identify at least one recommendation for public health institutions and public health professionals to implement as they serve and love well their neighbors (c.f., Luke 10:25-37). Lastly, in your theological engagement here, make sure that you are not simply using the Bible for your own purposes, but are drawing out salient biblical themes and theologies clearly prescribed in the text. Here it would be wise to consider the pervasiveness of sin and the heart of humanity, or perhaps a biblical view of justice (but this cannot be done without also exploring righteousness). Define your terms clearly and make sure that you assessment is not simply an easily plucked passage, chosen out of context.
