Figure P17-5 shows the dapped support region of a simple beam. The factored vertical reaction is 100 kips, and you should include a factored horizontal reaction of 20 kips at same location. Use normal-weight concrete with f'c = 5000 psi, and reinforcement with fy = 60,000 psi (weldable). The beam is 16 in. wide.

(a) Define the D-region in the beam.

(b) Draw a strut-and-tie model for the D-region defined in part(a).

(c) For your model in part (b), check the strength of nodes and struts, and design reinforcement of each tie and inclined strut.
