Discussion Question I
Review these three social work dispositions. In three separate paragraphs, answer the following prompts (each answer should be approx. 100 words). Refer to the NASW Code of Ethics and conduct research on the dispositions to provide detailed research-based answers (not personal opinions) for these questions.
Self-disclosure: Define self-disclosure by providing an example. When is self-disclosure therapeutically beneficial for a client? What is one precaution we need to take as social workers if we choose to disclose?
Objectivity: What is objectivity? Why must social workers remain objective with clients in order to be effective? Provide one example of a population or case that would challenge your ability to be objective with that client. What's one way you plan to handle that situation?
Self-care: Why can happen when social workers experience burn-out? Who (name all groups or people) does it impact? List three ways that you will incorporate self-care into your daily or weekly routine to prevent professional burnout.
Discussion Question II
Whether you're a student or a working professional, there are many benefits to being a part of a professional social work organization. Please review a professional social work organization in your area(Baton Rouge, La) that you are interested in and explain the benefits of being a part of that organization as it relates to your professional development, academic engagement, opportunities for internships, continuing education, and potential job placement. If there is not one nearby or of interest to you, feel free to find something else you can join virtually. Please note if there are membership fees, regular meetings (virtual or otherwise), a specific focus (e.g., policy, BIPOC, social justice issues), and anything else that makes that organization unique.
