Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a theory of motivation that breaks out the things that may motivate our needs. His theory states that we must meet our basic needs first but I don't think that I agree. I think that people are able to grow and learn at a different pace. I know a lot of people who have there Esteem needs met who have not met their Relationship needs yet on an intimate level. In Freitas and Leonard's study they study how Maslow's theory can relate to students. And determine that success drove success and that if a student isn't meeting their basic needs of food, clothing, air and shelter they would not be able to be successful as a student. A strength is that our needs are laid out and if you are trying to raise a well rounded individual or lead a fulfilling life you know what needs you need to meet to get there.

Piaget's theory only focuses on children. There is not something that shows learning in the later years. I think that this is a negative because as humans we are always learning and just our education alone continues until we are at least eighteen or for some of us until we are in our late thirties. I think that a plus to his theory is that it helps educators know how to teach young children and how they learn. It gives a better idea of what someone should focus on or how a child should develop.
