Question

Your client has been admitted with an acute flare up of their emphysema and are on oxygen at 6L via NP. The mucosal membrane of their nares are very dry and redness is noted at the top of their ears due to friction from the tubing. They have a dry cough and never complain of anything. The only time you hear from this patient is when their oxygen has been unhooked or kinked somehow.

If a patient isn't requesting anything, does that indicate they do not require anything? How do you define a 'good client' vs 'bad client'? How do these stigmas/stereotypes interfere with the care each client is being given?

What nursing interventions would be beneficial for this client?
