1. Define carrying capacity and then apply it to the following two ecosystems: (1) Tropical Rainforest and (2) Desert. Choose one specific geographic location for each ecosystem and describe the probable inhabitants (different species) in each region and how they may maintain a balance. Have human activities affected these areas in any way? How? What is the basic symbiotic relationships between biotic and abiotic parts in these specific biomes.

2. By 1935, hunting and trapping had eliminated wolves from the United States except for Alaska. Wolves have since been protected as an endangered species and have moved south from Canada and have reestablished themselves in the Rocky Mountains and the northern Great Lakes region. A few years ago, conservationists reintroduced wolves into Yellowstone National Park. Please describe and explain in some detail the important role of wolves in a well-balanced wild ecosystem. what are the symbiotic relationships here.

3. Americans make up 4.28% of the total human population, yet use more than 25% of the world's resources. Since all resources are limited and must be shared by all humans, what can you personally do to reduce your use of resources?

4. Global warming is occurring rapidly in Arctic marine and terrestrial ecosystems, including the taiga and tundra regions. First, discuss the biological make-up of these two biomes and then describe and explain in detail the effects of the loss of reflective snow and ice, and the possible results from a positive feedback system. discuss land areas, not sea ice!

5. Plants require water, carbon dioxide and sunlight to perform photosynthesis. Briefly describe and explain for which specific processes these items are needed. You need to discuss in detail what happens in the specific 'systems' (light-dependent and light-independent reactions). How will a plant react, if no water is available, and which specific processes would be interrupted and why?

6. Before recombinant products (produced by GMO bacteria) were available, humans who needed hormones, such as insulin and growth hormones, had to use products that were harvested from other humans and non-human animals. what are specific health risks that might be associated with products that were not made with genetically engineered bacteria?
