Attwood's machine A uniform circular pulley of mass 2m can rotate freely about its axis of symmetry which is fixed in a horizontal position. Two masses m, 3m are connected by a light inextensible string which passes over the pulley without slipping. The whole system undergoes planar motion with the masses moving vertically.
Take the rotation angle of the pulley as generalised coordinate and obtain Lagrange's equation for the motion. Deduce the upward acceleration of the mass m.
liquid water at 0degc weighs 9810 nm3 and ice at the same temperature weighs 8992 nm3. consider a system which is
Steam is the working fluid in a simple, ideal Rankine cycle. Saturated vapor enters the turbine at 8 MPa and saturated liquid exits the condenser at a pressure of 8 kPa. The net power output of the cycle is 100 MA.
You wish to design the rung on a ladder. The ladder should be light in weight so that it can be easily transported and used. The rungs on the ladder should be 0.25 in. x 1 in. and are 12-in. long. Design a material and its processing for the rungs..
Describe the difficulties that may arise when building a system from its components. What particular problems might occur when a system is built on a host computer for some target machine?
Identify the three-phase reactions by writing down the temperature, the reaction in equation form, the composition of each phase in the reaction, and the name of the reaction.
Calculate the amplitude of motion caused by the unbalanced force, (b) the transmissibility ratio, and (c) the magnitude of the force transmitted to ground through the isolator.
water vapor is cooled in a closed rigid tank from 520c and 100 bar to a final temperature of 270c. determine the final
Calculate the maximum bending stress σmax due to the load q if the beam has a rectangular cross section with width b = 140 mm and height h = 240 mm.
Make a table showing the pressure, volume, and temperature at the end of each of the four stages.
determine the steady-state solution for the following differential equations. if resonance exists for the equations
A titanium alloy with a modulus of elasticity of 16 × 106 psi is used to make a 1000-lb part for a manned space vehicle.
An electric heater in the form of a horizontal disk of 57 mm diameter is used to heat the bottom of a tank filled with engine oil at a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Calculate the power required to maintain the heater surface at 70 degrees C.
