The normal eye color of Drosophila is red, but strains in which all flies have brown eyes are available. Similarly, wings are normally long, but there are strains with short wings. A female from a pure line with brown eyes and short wings is crosssed with a male from a normal pure line. The F1 consists of normal females and short-winged males. An F2 is then produced by intercrossing the F1. Both sexes of F2 flies show phenotypes as follows:
3/8 red eyes, long wings3/8 red eyes, short wings1/8 brown eyes, long wings1/8 brown eyes, short wings
Deduce the inheritance of these phenotypes; use clearly defined genetic symbols of your own invention. State the genotypes of all 3 generations and the genotypic proportions of the F1 and F2.
List the three different structures for locomotion found among protozoans, and name an organism taht utilizes each structure.
Think about a diploid organism that has four pairs of chromosomes. If no crossing over occurred, determine how many different gametes could be produced in this organism?
If the recombination frequency between genes (A) and (B) is 5.3%, what is the distance between the genes in map units on the linkage map?
What DNA products would be generated if each of the following proteins were missing mutated one. (a) DNA Ploymerase, (b) DNS Ligase, (c) DNA Helicase, (d) Nuclease that removes RNA primers.
Assume you are walking on the beach when you step on a shell and cut your foot. 4-cells of Vibrio vulnificus bacteria are transferred from shell and deposited deep inside the cut.
After taking samples of HIV RNA sequences from two infected patients, you plot nucleotide differences over 500 generations. You calculate a y-intercept of -5 and a slope of 0.02.
For a specific type of cell after 3 hours, the concentration of cells per ml of solution is about 400/mL. After 10 hours the concentration has gone up to 2000/mL.
Gene expression normally results in proteins. In blood types the ABO results in carbohydrates. What is the activity of this gene ? Where in the cell would this enzyme activity occur?
Compute the number of acetyl-SCoA molecules generated by complete? oxidation of a 12-carbon activated fatty acid.
Suppose You want to add PMA to 15mL of HL-60 cells so that you have a concentration of 5nM. Your stock solution is 1uM. What is the volume of the stock solution you require?
A middle-aged man comes in since he has noticed multiple small, blood-red, raised lesions over his anterior chest and abdomen for past numerous months. They are not painful and he has not known about any bleeding or bruising. He is concerned this mig..
A 2.5 mg/ml stock solution was diluted as described in the table below and then the absorbance of each dilution was estimated and presented in the table given below.
