The final sample consisted of 453 individuals, of which the demographic data are presented in Table 1. For half the sample, the current deployment was the first military development. When calculated for the whole group (n = 453), the mean SRIP score, the insomnia score, and nightmare complaints increased marginally, but significantly after deplovment, while depression and anxiety scores before deployment were similar to depression and anxiety scores after deployment (see Table 2a) . In those who developed PTSD symptoms above the cutoff of 38 (n = 30, 6.6%), also depression and anxiety symptoms significantly increased (see Table 2b) EFFECT OF PRETRAUMA SLEEP COMPLAINTS ON DEVELOPMENT OF DEPLOYMENT-RELATED PTSD SYMPTOMS A logistic multiple regression analysis indicated that the full model explained 20.9% of the outcome (PTSD symptoms versus no-PTSD symptoms; see Table 3). Predeployment nightmares increased the risk PTSD symptoms (odds ratio 2.992, 95 % CI 1.096-8.551). Pre-deployment anxiety symptoms increased the risk for developing PTSD symptoms with a factor (odds ratio 1.479, 95% CI 1.026-2.133).
