Individualism is seen in United States' culture as a very highly valued virtue. We appreciate our individual freedoms and our ability to make decisions for ourselves. In some Eastern cultures, collectivism is more valued. In these societies, it is about what is best for the most amount of people rather than just considering the impact on one individual.
