For your final assignment in this course, you will complete a reflective presentation describing how your current knowledge and practice in education for emergent bilinguals meets the stated TESOL standards. For each standard, describe the aspects of the standard that you believe to be a strength, and aspects that you will focus on as an area for future growth.
TESOL 2: Candidates demonstrate and apply knowledge of the impact of dynamic academic, personal, familial, cultural, social, and sociopolitical contexts on the education and language acquisition of ELLs as supported by research and theories. Candidates investigate the academic and personal characteristics of each ELL, as well as family circumstances and literacy practices, to develop individualized, effective instructional and assessment practices for their ELLs. Candidates recognize how educator identity, role, culture, and biases impact the interpretation of ELLs strengths and needs.
For your reflection on this standard, explain how you connect your students' cultural and family experiences to the classroom, including:
1. Classroom activities that enhance connections between home & school cultures and languages
2. Partnerships with parents and community leaders for student learning
3. Development of classroom climate and instruction that purposefully addresses bias, stereotyping, racism, and inequities

1. Design and adaptation of assessment measures to be appropriate for EBs, including student self-evaluation and/or portfolio assessments
2. Multiple assessment measures that allow for the identification of EBs who are gifted or who have special needs
3. Evidence of student learning based on your instructional practice.
4. Communication with others regarding assessment and student learning.
