Component 1
Presentation - Further direction
• Each student will prepare and deliver a 15 minute presentation critically evaluating the potential contribution to an investigation that can be made by the examination of the crime scenes and associated exhibits in relation to the ongoing investigations of the suspected rape of Tracey BLENKINSOP and the attempted murder of Jamie WOOD on Tuesday 9th October 2019.
• This will be an individual presentation using a platform of your choice - Powerpoint/Prezi/other and include a voice over
• The setting will take the form of an advisory forensic strategy meeting with a senior investigation team. Your role is to advise the SIO in terms of the possibilities AND limitations of the value of specific evidence types in order to progress the investigation. This is as much about managing the expectations of the SIO as it is proposing a prioritised strategy.
o As we discussed in week 5 - Think about the evidential value of evidence in terms of where and when it was recovered.
o Consider exhibits that could support answers to key questions.
• What do we know now?
• What do we need to know?
• How will we find out?
o Consider intelligence as well as evidence.
• Consider the terminology you use when making statements.
o For example - does a positive footwear comparison between a scene mark and a suspects shoe place the suspect at the scene? Surely other circumstantial information needs to be considered here.
• You will draw on the evidence you recovered from the scenes you examined in Week 3 (Indoor scene) and Week7 (Vehicle) as well as the exhibits recovered from suspects and victims thus far.
