Data Analytics in Business

Assessment - Presentation with Slides

Learning Outcome 1: Examine theoretical concepts and principles for managing data and its business application.

Learning Outcome 2: Recommend data storage and processing infrastructure platforms suitable for business requirements and analytic outcomes.

Learning Outcome 3: Critically evaluate the value chain for converting data into analytics outcomes by clearly communicating business value to stakeholders.

Learning Outcome 4: Critically analyse data strategy, processes, operations and their impact on business.

Assessment Task

Present findings from an industry-based case study and communicate recommendations for data strategy and governance changes. To prepare for this assessment, review the Essential Resources provided in Modules 1.1 to 5.2. Reviewing these resources will help you develop your knowledge and skills in identifying critical data use cases, business analytics techniques, data processing infrastructure, data strategy and related methods for governing data. By completing these modules, you will also explore change management and data literacy issues.

Context

A data strategy is a long-term plan focused on leveraging data to achieve valuable business outcomes (e.g., what businesses can achieve with data). In this plan, businesses define elements such as the tools, processes, and rules required to manage, analyse, and interpret collected data. Important outputs of data strategy implementation include road maps or investment plans for implementing an ecosystem with assets for generating business value via data and analytics. In completing a data strategy, businesses must also be cognoscente of processes and responsibilities for maintaining data quality and protection (e.g., what businesses can do to protect data).

In Assessment 3, you and your group must methodically research an industry-based case study to produce findings, interpretations, conclusions and recommendations for implementing a data and governance strategy. Insights about data strategy and governance issues at the case study organisation will be communicated by your group via an oral presentation to stakeholders. Business analysts often deliver oral presentations to communicate the results of an investigation or analytical data study to stakeholders such as company directors or industry collaborators. Oral presentations are beneficial for summarising and conveying key findings while eliciting stakeholder responses to your interpretations. Critical business decisions will often depend on the outcomes of such presentations and deliberations.

Instructions

To complete this assessment successfully, you must complete the following tasks:

Task 1: Form and Register Your Group

Form a group of 3 to 4 students.

Nominate a group member who will send a registration email to your Learning Facilitator by 11:55 pm AEST, Friday, end of Module 4.2 (Week 8). Use the subject line "[BANASD601] Group Registration" and list each group member's name and student ID in the body of the email.

Students who fail to form a group and notify their Learning Facilitator by the registration deadline will be allocated to groups by their Learning Facilitator.

Task 2: Read, Complete, and Submit Your Group Contract

Read the BANASD601_Assessment_3_Group_Contract.docx in the main navigation menu of BANASD601 - Data Analytics in Business on Blackboard. This document outlines the roles and responsibilities of group members and ground rules for enabling productive meetings and collaboration for Assessment 3. Each group is required to complete the group contract. One person representing the group will submit the signed group contract by 11:55 pm AEST, Friday, end of Module 5.1 (Week 9). The group contract accounts for 5% of the assessment grade, as indicated in the marking rubric on pages 10 to 11 of this assessment brief.

Please refer to the Submission Instructions on page 5 of this assessment brief for details on how to submit your group contract for Assessment 3.

For assessments where students are expected to work in groups, the workload must be shared equitably among all group members. Please refer to Sections 6.1 and 6.2 of the Student Conduct Policy.

Task 3: Use Concepts from Modules 1.1 to 5.2 to format Group Presentation.

Your group presentation should cover the following topics:

Organisation background (including business problems/data use cases)
Current state (e.g., current systems/data sources, reporting capability, data literacy/culture, and security/governance)
Potential risks.
Proposed data strategy:
Data collection/Integration methods.
Data platform.
Analytics approach.
Governance and change management (e.g., security, data culture).
Benefits and recommendations
References (use in-text citations on the report presentation where necessary. Please include a reference list using APA 7th style on the last slide).

Task 4: Use Microsoft Sway or PowerPoint to Prepare a Presentation Report

Prepare a presentation report that covers all topics listed in Task 3. Your group's report presentation must have a maximum of either:

10 Microsoft Sway pages, or
10 Microsoft PowerPoint slides.

For technical guidance on how to use the basic functions of Microsoft Sway or PowerPoint, navigate to the following online resources:

The presentation will take place in Module 6.1 (Week 11) or Module 6.2 (Week 12), during class for face-to-face students or through an online Collaborate Ultra session for online students. Your Learning Facilitator will provide you with more instructions in class.

During the group presentation, it is important to cover all topics listed in Task 3 of this assessment brief (page 3). The presentation should also provide your target audience of company directors or industry experts with a clear and concise overview of the analysis results using a professional presentation format. Consider the content and delivery of the presentation:

The group and case study are introduced.
Content is clearly and logically sequenced.
Key findings and recommendations clearly explained.
