The student is responsible for writing a 2- critical paper using the library as well as the internet as resources. The paper should discuss a work of art chosen from the course textbook. The format example for the paper appears below. The format must be followed to receive credit for the critical paper. Papers submitted that do not follow the required format will receive a 0. A minimum of two sources should be in MLA on a separate bibliography page as well as the page number of the work discussed from the textbook.

FORMAT FOR CRITICAL PAPER
The critical paper should be in an essay format and include the following information:

I. Introduction
A. Identify
1. Title of specific work you choose to critique
2. Name of the Artist
3. Media used in chosen work
4. Dimensions of chosen work
5. Date work was completed

II. Formal Analysis
A. Describe
1. Elements of Design (line shape, color, etc.) used in chosen work
2. Principles of Design (unity, variety, balance, etc.) used in chosen work
3. Style (representational, abstract, non-objective) of chosen work

III. Interpretive Analysis
A. Analyze
1. Use of symbols or metaphors in chosen work
2. Content of work from your own point of view

IV. Brief Biography
A. Discuss
1. Birth and early years of artist
2. Education and influences on artist

V. Conclusion
VI. Bibliography (at least 2 sources and page number of artwork)
