Students must choose one of the current CJS strategies / policies from the list below on which to base their critical analysis:

- HM Government, Serious Violence Strategy (2018)
- HM Government, Ending Violence against Women and Girls Strategy 2016 - 2020 (2016)
- HM Government, Prevent Strategy (2011)
- HM Government, Victims Strategy (2018)
- Ministry of Justice, Female Offender Strategy (2018).

Students must use a minimum of 15 academic references to support their final assessment.

Structure

Your critical analysis should:
- Clearly introduce your chosen strategy (what is the nature of the problem / issue underpinning it?) and state how you will critically analyse it (e.g. which theories will you use and what contextual evidence (so impacts of austerity, etc.) you will present)
- State the aims or actions arising from the strategy that you will critique, and why you have chosen these aims / actions (note that strategies will have a range of actions, so it may be prudent to choose just one or two of these to critique in depth)
- Provide context to the strategy (e.g. statistics, impacts of harm caused by the problem the strategy is trying to resolve)
- Present and discuss a range of theories that you will use to critique the strategy (this is the main body of your analysis) and link these back to the aims of your strategy. This discussion will facilitate your critical analysis of the strategy
- Summarise and conclude your critical analysis and make recommendations on how your chosen strategy could be improved.
