Scenario
One evening while hanging out and bored, two teenagers, Rudy and Jamar, were out walking past the high school they attended. They were not good students and had numerous absences and disciplinary reports in their records. Both came from single-family homes and had issues with authority and periodic drug use. Rudy's father was in prison and Jamar's mother was a drug user. As they passed the school, one of the boys joked about breaking into the school. With little discussion, the teens laughing and daring one another, broke a window and climbed into the school building. While there, student projects were damaged, classroom materials were broken, posters ripped from the walls, and the desks of several teachers were rummaged through. They caused over $1,000 in damages before they heard a janitor approaching and jumped out of the window. Once outside, they stole a vehicle and attempted to flee. The boys were identified, arrested, and eventually detained.
