Assessment Details
This task involves creating four elements that could be part of a preschool program plan:
A process art invitation
A role play invitation
Reading a book aloud
Singing a song
INSTRUCTIONS
Imagine you are working with a preschool group and you have been asked to contribute to a plan for 3-5 year old children. Your contribution will include:
An Invitation to Play that explores materiality through process art (Element 1)
A language focused plan to include an invitation to role play (Element 2), a book (Element 3), and a song (Element 4).
Step 1: Plan With Your Class Group
Work collaboratively with your class to ensure a range of materials and role play scenarios are explored across the group.
As part of this planning process, you will be asked to share your initial ideas for your two Invitations to Play (process art and role play) on a class Padlet. This will allow everyone to see each other's ideas and help ensure a diverse range of Invitations to Play across the group. We aim to have a broad range of ideas across the group to support peer learning and avoid unintentional overlap.
Your lecturer will create the Padlet and share the link with you.
Step 2: Documentation For Your Invitations To Play (Elements 1 & 2)
For EACH of your TWO Invitations to Play,
Element 1: Process Art Invitation
Element 2: Role Play Invitation
You must submit a plan that someone could follow to set it up, which includes:
Materials
List and illustrate the materials and tools to be included in each invitation to play.
Plan for arrangement of the materials
Provide a diagram to show how the materials would be arranged, or a photograph of them set up with real materials. You must NOT use AI to generate images of the full setup. You may use AI-generated images to represent individual items or materials (not the full set-up), as long as they are clearly acknowledged and credited in Appendix. Diagrams or photos must re?ect your own thinking and design.
Write a short explanation (100 words).
Rationale
A statement of your reasons for choosing those materials and setting it up that way, including discussion of theory. Justify your material and setup choices. Link your decisions to relevant theory and key concepts from the unit resources (100-150 words)
Step 3: Fully Set Up One Invitation To Play And Record
Choose one of your Invitations to Play (either process art or role play) and fully set it up using real materials.
Film yourself setting up the invitation. Please make sure you appear in the video
Please ensure your video is not publicly accessible but is shared with your lecturer for viewing and assessment purposes.
Step 4: Record Elements 3 And 4
These two elements are separate from your Invitations to Play and do not require written plans. You will:
Element 3: Record a video of yourself reading a First Nations children's picture book aloud (i.e. the book must be one teachers could choose as a contribution to embedding Indigenous Perspectives in the curriculum)
Element 4: Record a video of yourself singing a short children's song in your ?rst language.
Tips:You are encouraged to visit a municipal library, as librarians curate high-quality collections using informed professional judgement.
You should look for evidence of who wrote, illustrated, and published the book, including details such as which Country the creator(s) are from.
