Assignment:
Read chapters in your text, "Changes that Heal."
1. Based on the case you have identified earlier in this course regarding boundaries, assessment and intervention, or a new case you are familiar with, identify and describe two to three symptoms that you see in the client based on chapter 9 or your text, "When we fail to develop boundaries". Describe the connections you see to boundaries and the symptoms in the life of the client. What sources other than boundary problems are also contributing to their symptoms or struggles?
2. What barriers to creating boundaries can you identify in the client's life? Identify at least two from chapter 9, "When we fail to develop boundaries," and describe how you see these at work in the client's situation. How do these barriers impact the client's ability to make progress or achieve goals? Describe at least one specific strategy or intervention you might use to help the client learn to set boundaries as described in chapter 10, "Learning to Set Boundaries." Explain a specific goal, including objectives and action steps, that you could include in a treatment plan for this client to address this issue.
3. Discuss how you can assess and evaluate the effectiveness of your work with the client to help achieve this goal over time. What behaviors can you track or measure that will tell you that progress is being made? What benchmarks of success might you build into the plan to indicate progress is being made? If the goal is not being met, how will you determine whether to stay with this theory and approach, modify it, or change it? Be specific in describing methods you might use.
