Throughout your life, you will find yourself in many situations in which you must present your views on a controversial issue to others, listen to their views, and explore the ways in which your respective understandings overlap and differ.
The ability to explore difference between how you and others think about key issues is a competency that every professional and every member of any community must have.
The world needs people who can explore diversity in a way that does not prohibit them from being members of a single community, whether professional or personal in character.
Purpose
In this assignment, you initially will create and give a short presentation to a group of your peers in which you take a position regarding an argument that one of your classmates presented during the persuasive project.
They must include a reference page in which you list full citations for all of the sources from which you took information that did not come from firsthand personal experience.

Phone addiction is too real
Introduction
I. It's always funny when you look at someone tapping away at their phones and then they smack into a tree or pole because they weren't paying attention to what's in front of them. To be honest, I've almost fallen for this a few times too.
II. When our phones become so addicting to the point where we can't even watch what's in front of us, there's an obvious problem with how often we're staring at our phones.
III. As we go through college, we pick up lifelong habits that would typically impact us for the rest of our lives, but constantly staring at our phones shouldn't be one of those habits.
IV. I'm a fellow college student, here at UD, and I admit that the time I spend on my phone has only increased since I got on campus, and this isn't a good sign for the rest of my life.
V. It's hard to find anyone without a phone, and our reliance on these devices should not only be examined, but helped, if necessary.
A. The usefulness makes the cell phone a seeming need in today's society, and the practicality of them makes life so much easier, but they shouldn't be overused.
B. Constantly staring at our phones will lead us to not only be accustomed to them, but even to a point of mild addiction, in which we catch some sort of withdrawal effect without having one near us.
Body
I. The primary reason we had a cell phone in the first place was to call back our parents if we were ever gone past curfew.
It's gone from that one purpose to having so many uses that we can't even number. This makes the phone not only addicting, but a seemingly good form of addiction.
A. A cell phone now has our schedules, contacts, and reminders that we rely on everyday that we wouldn't even remember on our own. The fact that many of us can't even wake up in time for classes in the morning without an alarm coming from our phones means that we essentially rely on them for the smallest, most basic needs.
B. But knowing that the cell phone has the capability to do all these simple and extra tasks for us, why should we need to rely on our own capabilities for these things, knowing that we have homework, assignments, and tests to study up on. It's not efficient.
II. The problem is laziness, and getting accustomed to it.
A. There's a saying that goes: "If you snooze, you lose." This is because of the snooze option of your phones that allow you to get an extra
5 minutes until the scheduled alarm goes off again. People become so accustomed to hitting the snooze button, that they eventually learn to sleep through the alarm all together.
B. There will even be times in which we schedule appointments or even dates with people, and then completely forget to leave for the appointment because you forgot to schedule it into your phone. Instead of relying on an internal clock, everything is inputted into these phones that aren't mind readers and 100% reliable. It's a scary trap to fall into, and we should stop relying solely on these devices.
III. The fix these these issues is simple. People need a reset on their own internal clocks.
A. If you are on your phone too often, try to find time off of it. A way to do this is turning your phone completely off when entering class, which is what should've already been done for maximum concentration, but it's just a reminder. Another, more motivating way to stop obsessing over your phone is to look at your phone bill, and then critically evaluate if this is sustainable with the money your currently making.
B. Another, more challenging way to stop total reliance on your phone is to work with it, instead of making it work for you. When the phone alarm goes off, make sure that it was placed across the room, where you would have to actually get up and move to turn it off. In the case of missing a meeting, make sure you work with your phone by simply rescheduling or constantly setting in reminder notifications to never miss your next important meeting.

II. A phone is a powerful tool, when used responsibly, and sadly, we're abusing these devices to the point where its less effective than intended.
A. We've gone from such simple purposes and uses of the phone to such complex and tedious needs.
B. It's gone to the point where we don't even allow the phone to do its job since we're getting lazy when we should've been doing what the phone can't even make us do anymore.
C. These small issues can be helped by simply having some time off from the device or finding more mutual benefits between the phone and yourself to not have issue with the phone not completing its task.
III. Ultimately, this speech isn't protesting the use of phones, but just the inefficiency and unawareness that phones can possibly produce with how much it can do for someone. One should never fall into the trap of something that's too good to be true, and does everything for you.
