Scenario 1 - Develop an orientation program for new students at Parker Online Community College
Parker Online Community College (POCC) is situated in suburban Virginia and educates approximately 3,000 students.
The average student age is 34 years old. Some students have previous college experience but dropped out for various reasons, and some student just didn't start college until later in life. Many of the students have full-time or part-time jobs as well as families, and finding the time to study for classes is challenging.
Some of the students have previously taken online courses; for others, this will be their first experience with online education. POCC distributed a survey to all new students to identify the primary concerns they had about returning to or starting classes.
The following primary concerns were identified by the students:
• Time Management
• Writing Skills
• Connecting With Other Students
• Technology Skills
Your mission will be to create an orientation program for newly admitted students at POCC.
Scenario 2 - Develop an Introduction to Social Media for Professionals program for new clients at Parker Community Career Center Parker Community Career Center (PCCC) is situated in suburban Maryland, and is a resource center where adults can get advice on career counseling, job search strategies, resumes, and interviews.
Many of the clients who come to PCCC for career assistance are over 40 years of age.
Through a survey, PCCC has identified the need for these clients to receive education and training on how to use social media to meet career goals. Your mission will be to create an Introduction to Social Media for Professionals program for adult clients over 40.
Assignment : Program Presentation and Reflection
For this assignment, you will create a presentation of your selected program using the fast-paced PechaKucha presentation style of 20 slides/20 seconds per slide. For more information and background, read the article "What is PechaKucha?"
Note: If you would like feedback from other students on your presentation prior to submitting, please join the extra ungraded, optional discussion included in Weeks 8 and 9 of this course named "Presentation Forum".
Complete the following for your selected program:
1. Create a presentation of your selected program using the presentation software of your choice that includes the program name, needs analysis, program goal and objective(s), learning objectives, instructional activities, measurement method(s), and description of activities you will use to launch your program.
2. Write a two (2) page summary detailing the following:
a. Describe what you learned while developing your program. What aspects of it did you like/dislike?Is there anything you would have done differently?
b. Find two (2) academic conferences you would be interested in presenting your program to. Provide the information for each conference, and discuss why these conferences appealed to you and why these audiences would be interested in your program.
3. Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
a. Include exactly twenty (20) slides in your presentation, including the title slide.
b. Include quality, relevant graphics where you are able.
c. Provide audio narration of the presentation slides as if you were delivering the speech. Each slide's narration should be no longer than twenty (20) seconds in length. (Note: If you do not have access to a microphone, then you should provide speaker notes of the same length in the Notes area of your presentation).
d. Include a separate Microsoft Word document for the two (2) page written summary.
