Scientific Understanding Task
The following task will test your scientific understanding and ability to answer a stated research question. Please complete the following tasks.
Background
A group of researchers wanted to investigate whether different types of feedback on an English assignment influence students' motivation. Therefore, they collected data from N = 300 German high school students who performed an essay task as part of their English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class. Get dependable, budget-friendly assignment help-starting today!
The researchers randomly assigned students to one of three feedback conditions:
1. Grade condition: Students received only a numerical grade score.
2. Comment and grade condition: Students received a grade alongside commented feedback.
3. Comment condition: Students received only commented feedback (i.e., suggestions for improvement).
After receiving the feedback, all students completed a short self-report questionnaire assessing their interest and intrinsic motivation for writing another essay. The researchers sought to answer the question:
Does the type of feedback (comments vs. grades vs. comments and grades) impact students' motivation?
The file feedbackmotivation.csv below contains the researchers' collected data. The dataset consists of one row per student and two columns for the assessed variables:
condition: denotes the experimental condition
(1 = grade condition, 2 = comment and grade condition, 3 = comment condition)
motivation: quantifies students' motivation for writing another essay on a continuous scale ranging from 1 (very low) to 20 (very high)
Disclaimer: This is simulated data, and the potential findings are entirely constructed.
