Option 1: Logic Puzzle
You are a student nurse on a medical surgical unit and you cannot remember your patients Dennis (male), Charlie (male), Dee (female), Frank(male) and Mac's(male) admitting diagnosis and PMH! Using the clues below, can you determine each patient's admitting diagnosis and their PMH? HINT: use the chart of the symptoms given to you in lecture and use the graph below to figure it out! Fill out the last table for your answers. Only one patient will have each disease and past medical history.
Clues:
1. Dee came in with Left upper quadrant pain but Dennis did not.
2. One of the boys has a past medical history of high blood pressure but does not have cholecysitis with cholelithiasis.
3. The person who came in with right upper quadrant pain and jaundice has a past medical history of a heart arrhythmia. This person is not Frank.
4. The person whosepain is not relieved in the fetal position was recently in the hospital for SOB and fever. Mac's pain is relieved in this position and he has a past history of JVD, peripheral edema and unexplained weight gain
5. Charlie came in with mid-epigastric pain but does not have a hx of PNA.
6. Frank takes his blood sugar before each meal and at bedtime at home.
Option 2: Create a visual or auditory piece that could be used to teach someone about how to assess a patient with pyelonephritis with nephrolithiasis and a Foley catheter. This could be a poster, video, flyer, brochure, song etc. Your visual must have these components:
a. Discussion of the pathophysiology of pyelonephritis with nephrolithiasis and how these two diseases are connected.
b. Important assessment techniques and assessment findings (of pyelonephritis, nephrolithiasis and the foley catheter) -including special techniques
Note: If you decide to do a video or something that will take substantial amount of time, up to three students can receive credit for this project. Prior authorization from faculty must be given.
