Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is for you to apply knowledge gleaned from evaluation research and to hypothetically evaluate an existing criminal justice program. By participating in this assignment, you will demonstrate your understanding of the lesson content and the following learning objectives:
- Analyze evaluation research in the field of criminology and criminal justice.
- Explain how evaluation research effects policy choices and criminal justice programs
- Create a unique program evaluation.
The purpose of course assignments are to be hands-on learning tools to help you solidify complex research methods terms as you apply them to real-world case studies and examples. I want you to think creatively and originally. This is a hypothetical design, so think of new ideas and describe how you would implement evaluation research. You will NOT actually conduct a program evaluation. Think of this as a hypothetical proposal, what you would do.
Questions:
1. Find an already existing criminal justice program that you want to study. To locate the program, you will need to research and search for information that is outside the Canvas course materials. Be sure to cite this APA style within your assignment and on your References page.
Create your own original program evaluation. Do not copy the examples in the textbook. Again, this is a hypothetical program evaluation. You will NOT actually conduct the program evaluation. So, describe what you would do, and how you would evaluate your selected criminal
justice program.
2. What type of program evaluation would you utilize (i.e., impact evaluation, efficiency analysis, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis)? Explain why this program evaluation design is appropriate for your selected criminal justice program. Describe your program evaluation: how would you evaluate your program, who would you study, what variables would you study, and what are your research questions and hypotheses (i.e., what are the goals of your evaluation, what are you trying to find)?
3. While not all are required, address as many of the following as possible: experiments or quasi- experiments, qualitative and quantitative methods, ethics in evaluation, and policy implications (i.e., what are your predicted findings and how would this influence criminal justice policy?). Justify your responses to these questions.
