Review of the Research Process and Research Designs

Using the information provided in the readings, create a table or summary list of the characteristics of the five quantitative (survey, correlation, group comparisons, intervention/experiment, and single subject) and qualitative (general, narrative, case study, ethnography, and grounded theory) designs.

Arrange your summary or chart by research design. Try to create a table or summary list that will be a useful tool for you in the future, especially as it applies to the TAD.

Include the following elements in your chart/summary for each research design (3-5 pages):

• Description of the design and when it is appropriate to use

• Participant/sampling techniques

• Types of data collected

• Resource(s): Use the readings provided in Module 1 to provide a text or journal article that you think is the best reference for the design (think about what is useful to you in the future), explain your reasoning. If you have alternative resources, include them as well

• Write a brief statement (2-3 paragraphs) about which design you think might be most appropriate for your potential TAD topic/research problem, explain your reasoning.

Critical thinking/Application to professional practice:

Demonstrates mastery conceptualizing the problem, and viewpoints and assumptions of experts are analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated thoroughly.

Conclusions are logically presented and applied to professional practice in an exceptional manner.
