Chapter 5 - Data and Knowledge Management
Data is "huge" when it comes to understanding customer patterns.
The more data you have, and the more analysis you are able to do, the better you will understand what makes customers tick.
In fact, data is such a "big" part of understanding customers we have a unique name for it...BIG DATA.
Below is a letter from Jeremy Farr regarding your assignment for this project.
The purpose of the assignment is two fold:
Gain experience using online tools to create surveys e.g. Survey Monkey, Google Forms,...
Gain experience displaying data in graphical format
Remember to use an appropriate template and a Word compatible file format (.doc or .docx) for your assignment.
We at Noble Bank (as well as any other bank) use historical data to create profiles of applicants to determine who will get a loan and who will not. However, this is not all we use data for.
We also use data to determine how much we can change product offerings and not lose existing customers. Because there is a certain amount of effort involved with moving your entire checking account to a new bank (new checks, new debit cards, automatic deposits to be
updated, and more) banks hold a certain amount of staying power in the inconvenience of "change" (no pun intended).
I would like for you to create a survey and collect some data for me on this issue. Feel free to use any survey tool that will easily capture data in a format that can be analyzed, or just visit drive.google.com and learn about creating a Google Form for collecting data. There are
plenty of written instructions, video tutorials on YouTube, etc. available to help you get up to speed on creating a Google Form. Create a survey with at least 10 items to capture data regarding customers decision to stay with or leave their bank. If you have trouble coming up
with your items, drop by your local bank and ask the manager what information would be helpful!
After you design your survey, invite a few friends, family members, roommates, classmates, anyone you can find to complete your survey. Make sure you get at least 10 responses per question. Use the resulting data (Google Forms will automatically put information into a Google Spreadsheet) to create some charts or graphs to help determine the staying power for banks over competition's advertisements.
Place at least three charts in a report and describe them to me and discuss what conclusions you can draw from the charts. Also explain why you choose the particular chart form e.g. bar chart, pie chart,...
Attach the list of your questions to the end of the report.
Be sure to mention which survey tool you used and how easy / hard you found it to use. Also be sure to include a working link to your survey.
