It is important to recognize that police organizations are open systems because their main job is to serve and protect the people. Whether the officers do this or not, that is the title of their job because they are civil servants used to maintain peace in our society. One of the biggest problems we have run into when it comes to this is discrimination. Whether you are black, white, Asian, Indian, it doesn't matter, there will always be officers out there that think they do not need to help you because of what you stand for or your skin color. This is one of the many things that can be kept in check, but it very difficult to eradicate. Police organizations are supposed to be there to help anyone and everyone who is in trouble. This could be someone going into a police station requesting help or someone calling 9-1-1 to get help, but the officers of that police department swore an oath to protect the law-abiding citizens of their district. If the public can't trust the police to help them in their time of crisis, then there is no point to be hiring them to "protect us" from harm. With my last few weeks in my internship, I have seen great cops doing everything in their power to protect the citizens of Cherokee County, as little as a minor accident, to a shots fired call, they always respond, and they respond in a manner appropriate based on the what the call is. Officers will run either a Code 1, Code 2, or Code 3 depending on the call. Code 1 is running lights and sirens all the way navigating through medians and any means to get to the scene as soon as possible. Code 2 is lights and sirens only being used to clear intersections and Code 3 is normal driving without disrupting the flow of traffic (this is normally used in most calls that a life is not in danger). Even if an officer doesn't get there in less than 5 minutes, does not mean that they are not trying their best to get there in a timely manner.

Police organizations must have open systems because not every society is the same. Every society is different whether it's politics, crime, or the economic level. The primary purpose of their job is to take care of the people in the community regardless of their financial status, race, or religion. Being open is one of the most essential parts of their jobs because it's what helps build that trustworthy bond between police and citizens within the community. For example, an officer patrolling the lower class of town must understand the nature of people's living situations in the area. Understanding such a thing will give the officer an advantage going into a call because he/she would know are the necessary steps to get a positive outcome in a situation. Having an open system not only is just for the police organization. It's also helpful for the citizens in a community because the open system gives them the opportunity to voice their opinions about police activity. According to the text, a lack of communication and feedback in both organizations can lead to a lack of control and organization (Cordner, 2019). As a result of this open dialogue relationship, the police's open system continues to move forward in a positive direction.
