PURPOSE: This is your opportunity to continue reflecting on landscape design history and theory, collecting and assembling key ideas -CONCEPTS - for current and future landscape design explorations and practice. This assignment is called Journal to highlight the inherent personal reflectivity. You can begin gathering data early in the semester if that suits your learning habits and work ethic.

DESCRIPTION: SELECT a 'big idea/s' (concept/s) on landscape history. This concept is one that you consider useful / relevant / interesting to pursue further explorations through your contemporary landscape design 'praxis' (way of doing!). This selection will help you articulate a personal design manifesto.

Think of this IDEA and LANDSCAPE REPRESENTATION and CREATION [in context of its complementary artistic creation if wished: Architecture, Literature, Visual Arts, Cinema, or Music...]

EXAMINE the idea/s using reasoned argument in writing, assisted by analytical and diagrammatic illustrations [this includes model making (analogue/digital), sketch-noting techniques if desired], to reflect on the qualities that you believe are (still) important for landscape architecture today. Acknowledge the source/s of these ideas. The page of illustrations can be a collage of diagrams and photographic views (all sources cited appropriately; consider a separate List of Figures following the references to free up space on image pages).

CREATE a personal design MANIFESTO that derives from at least six (6) big ideas about history. We do not expect or want a closed Manifesto of everything that matters to you: focus on historical landscape design and its benefits to empower your future design or research praxis.
