Task 1
Instruction: Create a digital trifold brochure that clearly outlines the mandatory reporting process in early childhood education and care. Your brochure may be hand-drawn or digitally created using a tool such as Canva. Use concise bullet points and/or precise statements to present the required information.
Note: Use of AI is prohibited as it constitutes as an Academic Misconduct, and may result to a grade of zero.
Your brochure must address the following:
What counts as reasonable suspicion of harm or risk?
What must be the initial action of an educator when concerns arise?
What is the information required when making a mandatory report?
What is the appropriate reporting authority in your state?
What are the follow-up actions expected after a report is made?
What are the roles and responsibilities of educators, the nominated supervisor, and the approved provider?
What are the actions or behaviours that educators must not do during the process?
Task 2
Hands-On STREAM and Science Exploration
Scenario (Practical Activity)
You are an early childhood educator. You want to help preschool children (3-5 years) explore science and STREAM concepts in a hands-on way.
This week, we will create a simple experiment or investigation that children could do to explore water, plants, or natural materials.
Example ideas (you can choose your own):
Floating and sinking experiment with small objects
Observing water flow through funnels or channels
Exploring plant growth using seeds, soil, and water
Sorting, counting, or measuring natural materials (rocks, leaves, sticks)
You will do this activity yourself at home using household or natural materials, without children. You will document it as if you are planning and observing children's learning.
Your Task
Plan Your STREAM Activity
Decide what materials you will use
Decide what children could investigate or discover
Decide which STREAM domains your activity involves (Science, Technology, Reading & Writing, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics)
Do the Activity
Conduct the experiment or investigation yourself
Observe what happens and note any interesting patterns, changes, or outcomes
Document Your Learning
Take 3-5 photos showing each stage OR
Record a 2-4 minute video explaining what you did
Use drawings, simple charts, or objects to show your ideas
Reflect
How does this activity encourage scientific thinking? (Observation, asking questions, experimenting)
How could you make this child-centred if working with children?
How does it link to EYLF outcomes or learning through play?
Which STREAM domains did you integrate?
Examples of What to Submit
Photo 1: Materials you used and your setup
Photo 2: Experiment or investigation in action
Note: This photo should show the process of the investigation.
For example, the materials being used and the action taking place (testing, changing, comparing, exploring)
Photo 3: Observations or results (drawings, patterns, measurements)
Note: This photo should show what happened after the investigation.
It should capture the outcomes or evidence from the activity, such as:
a simple drawing or record of what was noticed
measurements, patterns, or comparisons
changes observed as a result of the experiment
Photo 3 is about the findings, not the action. It should show what you noticed or learned from the investigation rather than how you carried it out.
Photo 4-5: Reflection or planning notes
OR
A short video (2-3 minutes) explaining the activity, showing materials, steps, and reflection
Task 3
Description: Imagine you are an Early Childhood Teacher in a 4-year-old kindergarten room. Global Recycling Day is on 18th March. What will your plan be, and how will you implement it to observe the day or a week?
Please include in your plan:
Topic/Title of the lesson: Name of the lesson or title
Group of children and their ages: Number of children involved at a time and age group (e.g. 4-5 children at a time, children ages from 3-5 years old).
Teaching and learning resources: Name and show (Photo) at least 3 resources
Lesson objectives: List at least two objectives that you want your focus children to achieve when they complete the task.
Teaching strategies: Explain at least two appropriate teaching strategies to be used.
What children are expected to do: Describe briefly how children will approach the task and what they are expected to do.
Assessment strategies: Describe at least two assessment strategies you will use and link them to at least two EYLF learning outcomes.
Critical reflection: Briefly reflect on how you implemented the task.
