A study investigates the association between drinking coffee and developing heart disease. Researchers compare people with heart disease and people without heart disease to see if coffee drinkers are more likely to develop the disease. In this sample, there are 50 coffee drinkers with heart disease, 20 non-coffee drinkers with heart disease, 30 coffee drinkers without heart disease, and 100 non-coffee drinkers without heart disease. Scenario 2
A study investigates the link between wearing a helmet while cycling and sustaining a head injury in an accident. The researchers followed 100 cyclists who always wear helmets and 100 cyclists who never wear helmets for a specific period. During the study, 5 cyclists who wore helmets and 20 cyclists who never wore helmets sustained head injuries.
