Discussion: Perception

In this unit you learned about visual perception and saw that people often make perceptual errors. For example, you learned about perceptual errors such as change blindness and inattentional blindness as well as errors in face recognition.

For this Discussion, create a case study of a client who has likely experienced one of the perceptual errors you learned about in this unit.

Then, discuss how you would explain this perceptual error to your client. Make sure you support your discussion with information from the unit's Readings.

Here is an example of a case study:

Sarah is a 20-year-old female teacher. She has 20 six-year old children in her class. One of her students brings in a toy, which is against school policy. She informs the student that they are not allowed to bring toys into the classroom and that she must confiscate the toy until the end of the school day. The student complains that it is not fair because one of her classmates brought in a toy the previous week and that toy was not confiscated. Sarah does not remember another student having a toy in class the previous week and later discusses it with her teaching assistant. The teaching assistant says that the student is correct and that one of the students brought an extremely large teddy bear into class the previous week. Sarah is extremely concerned that she failed to notice this item in her classroom.
