Module Assessment
Title of Assignment: Coursework2.1
(CGI 1: Texturing and Lighting)
Overview
Create materials for, arrange and illuminate a 3D environment using Maya and image editing software of your choice
Specific Requirements
TWO Maya geometry files have been made available for this Assessment. These contain the low-polygon environments such as might be used in a computer game or architectural visualisation. You are to create materials and textures for the scenery and 3D objects within, arrange the objects, light the scene and render out some images that illustrate the work you have done.
It will be necessary to amend or create the UV co-ordinates for the objects. You will need to create the textures, either from scratch or by amending other image files such as photographs. YOU MUST CHOOSE ONLY ONE!!! PLEASE DON’T TRY TO DO BOTH!!!
Title of Assignment: Coursework2.2
(CGI 2 Modelling, Texturing, Lighting and Rendering)
Overview
Create a 3D computer graphic scene of a music shop including instruments, using Maya. (Or, within reason and suitability a scene of your choice)
Specific Requirements
You are required to model, texture and render a music shop. It can contain a mix of instruments that exists in the real world, based upon reference or observational material, or it can contain instruments that you have designed yourself. If you do design it yourself, the design can be futuristic, contemporary or antique. You should model your music shop using any of the techniques used in this module, creating correct UVs, producing and applying shaders and textures, and illuminating the object using lights.
Once your modelling and shading work is complete, you need to render out the scene to a number of images that displays all of the features and details of your scene. As well as musical instruments you should do a relevant amount of research on other things that can be found in a music shop (a till, signs, price labels etc.)
There is no budget for the number of polygons or size of textures that you can use. The model is intended for film or for print purposes, and so can have a large number of polygons. Don’t however, give the model too many polygons so that it is difficult to manipulate and edit. You may optionally and additionally create a low-resolution version of the object that would be suitable for an interactive environment such as a game. For this low resolutionversion, you should use the techniques available to transfer textures such as normal maps, from the higher resolution version.
You should employ good organisational practices; this means that you must give all your objects and materials descriptive names.
You may also, as an alternative choose to make a scene with a theme of your own. This must first be discussed and approved as to determine its suitability for this Assignment. The same criteria would apply as the Music Shop; however, your own scene will determine creative challenges that may not be suitable for this Assessment. You must check first otherwise you risk receiving a zero grade for this Assignment.
