During his conversation with Euthyphro, and especially during the course of his defense, Socrates proudly wears his values on his sleeve. Given the clear view we get in his defense of what Socrates’ values are, and of how he believes that people ought to lead their lives, imagine an encounter between Socrates and yourself, during which Socrates asks you about your lifestyle, your goals, your beliefs, and your values. In what ways might Socrates praise, and/or criticize you for your responses? How would you respond to whatever criticisms Socrates might make of you?

Your papers should be about 3 pages, double-spaced, standard font,(approx. 750 words).

If you want to reference some of Socrates’ remarks, use simple parentheses and marginal page numbers at the end of the sentence/passage, eg: (Apology, 27e). The exam will be due Wednesday the 28th. Finally, recall from the syllabus:

Your grade on all of the exams will be based upon the following considerations: Is your paper clearly written and well organized? Have you addressed all aspects of the topic, or have you left things out that we had asked you to discuss? Have you demonstrated a solid understanding of the texts that are relevant to the topic, or have you misinterpreted or misrepresented them? Have you

demonstrated independent, clear, and creative thinking regarding the topic, or have you merely repeated points that were raised in lecture and/or discussion sections? [This last criterion is generally.
