Question

Mendel analyzed about 29,000 pea plants over the course of 10 years. Mendel experiments involved controlled mating of different plant characteristics. By hand-pollinating the floras, he was able to control the kind of mating that occurred. Mendel would take the pollen that produces semen from one pea blossom and apply it to the part of the pea plant that houses the egg, the carpel. His studies revealed that the two parents give almost equal amounts of genetic material to their offspring. He identified an inheritance pattern that occurs mostly in characteristics that are the result of a single gene with few different alleles. Explain why all the offspring in the F1 generation were yellow instead of half being yellow and half green, or some other mix of the colors. Hint: Remember that Mendel coined the terms dominant and recessive.
