Question

1) What are the three main sources of variation that contribute phenotypic variation among individuals?

2) Which of these three types of variation can be further catergorized into smaller categories? What are those smaller categories?

3) which specific type of variation explain why an offspring will "look like their parents"? What type of heritibility would this describe?

4) based on you response for 1a. draw a reaction norm that would indicate EACH type of variation influencing a trait

I think we have to talk about genetic variance: the diversity of alleles and genotypes within a population

Va= Proportion of phenotypic variance explained by additive genetic variation. Causes offspring to resemble parents.

We learned about: VP = (VA + VD + VI) + VE

narrow sense heritability, broad sense heritability,

total phenotypic variance: Vp = Vg + Ve

Total phenotypic variance = variance due to genetics + variance due to environment
