Question: A full-time work week in the US is generally considered to be 40 hours. Yet 86% of males and 66% of females report that they work more than 40 hours per week (at least they did pre-pandemic). Indeed, the average full-time worker works 47 hours per week. This is a much longer workweek than is common in other countries. In France, for example, the maximum work week is, by law, 35 hours. There is some movement in the US to reduce the length of the standard work week. For example, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has said that he would be willing to consider legislation reducing the maximum work week to 32 hours without any reduction in the rate of pay.
