CHCDIS007 - facilitate the empowerment of people with disability
Questions:
1. Consider the historic and recent developments in disability with a focus on the social and medical model of service - and the difference between the institutionalised and person-centred model of support. Present your findings by PowerPoint.
2. Demonstrate knowledge if essential support practices for people with one of the following conditions: genetic factors, physical trauma or chronic lifestyle conditions.
3. Use the case study and demonstrate your ability to communicate with various non-verbal communication strategies. Choose examples of AAC to help the 2 people with a disability reach their personal goals.
Case 1: Sandy is 13 and has autism. She attends school and has a teacher's aide to assist in developing her social, communication and learning skills, and supporting her in different sensory environments at school. She also has assistance in developing skills to encourage independence in the wider community.
Case 2: Situation: Kasha has been invited to her cousin's late-night party on a boat where both boys and girls will be attending. Alcohol will also be available. The issues: Kasha wants to go but her mother says it's not appropriate. Kasha has asked her support worker, Lily, to accompany her and convince her mother that it is suitable to attend, as she is 18 years of age. Lily isn't sure if she wants to go as she's not keen on parties where there is alcohol.
