Case Study: students will delve into the world of media representation as they explore the portrayal of juveniles in various forms of media such as Netflix shows, docuseries, podcasts, movies, or TV shows. Through comprehensive research, they will evaluate the accuracy of the representation, the context in which it is presented, and any potential biases present. In addition to the paper, students need to attach a copy of the lyrics to the song(s), album(s), video content and a link to where it can be streamed or viewed (such as YouTube, Netflix, Apple Music, etc.). Aside from the media and class material, students utilize scholarly or otherwise reputable articles to create a paper that truly can encompass how youth/jueniles are portrayed in various forms of popular culture. Utilizing credible sources such as academic journals, news articles, and reviews, students will incorporate in-text citations and a reference list to bolster the credibility of their paper. The paper will be graded based on its clarity, accuracy, and adherence to APA format, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their research and writing skills.
Choose a type of media (e.g. Netflix shows, docuseries, movies, TV shows, etc.) to research and focus on the portrayal of juveniles in that specific media.
Review APA format guidelines, including proper use of headings, in-text citations, and references.
Conduct research on the portrayal of the juvenile(s) in the chosen media, considering factors such as the accuracy of the representation, the context in which the representation is made, and any potential biases. Use credible sources such as academic journals, news articles, and reviews. A minimum of 5 scholarly sources must be used in this paper. Meaning that you must obtain knowledge from published scholarly articles. You may find these through google scholar.
